International visitors to the Netherlands from Indonesia and South Africa

From 18 June to 6 July 2018, art and heritage professionals from Indonesia and South Africa are visiting the Netherlands for knowledge-exchange.

Indonesian Modern Art
Amir Sidharta, art historian and curator at the Museum Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tangeran, will be visiting the Netherlands between 18 - 22 June. He will be one of the speakers in a symposium on The Production and Circulation of Indonesian Modern Art (1935-50) organised by the Stedelijk Museum on 21 June. Amir Sidharta's keynote will be on Indonesian Art during the Revolutionary War (1945-1949).

South African architectural archives
A delegation of several South African archival institutes will be visiting the Netherlands from 2 to 6 July 2018. The topic of the visit is the conservation of architectural drawings and their accessibility. As recent research reveals, many Dutch architects educated in the Netherlands were involved in 19th and 20th century construction work in South Africa. For that reason, local archives contain quite a lot of shared heritage. Amongst those who are currently involved in conserving these shared heritage resources, there is a great need for skills and knowledge about ways of dealing with these architectural drawings.

The delegation will become acquainted with their Dutch counterparts and will learn about good practices, expertise and support that are available in the Netherlands. This will provide the groundwork for an upcoming training programme in South Africa and future international cooperation in the field of archives and shared heritage.
