International visitors: IPHAN delegation

From 18 to 22 September 2017, a delegation of IPHAN from Brazil is visiting the Netherlands.
Date(s)
Monday 18 - Friday 22 September 2017

IPHAN is the Brazilian counterpart of the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE). The delegation consists of Ms Cléo Alves Pinto de Oliveira (Infrastructure Analyst), Ms Marina Cañas Martins (Member of Technical Staff) and Ms Natália Brayner (Coordinator of Sustainability Support for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage).

The central themes of the visit are conservation and management of cultural landscapes. Both Brazil and the Netherlands have wide expertise in this field, but with different approaches and focuses. While in the Netherlands cultural landscape is mainly a matter of spatial planning and the preservation of natural and cultural sites, in Brazil there is much more attention for intangible heritage and the social significance of cultural landscapes. During the visit, which is part of a long lasting cooperation between the two countries, both parties will exchange experiences in this field in order to sharpen their own practice.

The visit is jointly hosted by RCE and DutchCulture, in cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer and with a contribution from the Netherlands Embassy in Brasília. The delegation will visit the New Dutch Defense Line, the National Park Drentsche Aa, the earthquake-prone areas in Groningen, the Colony of Benevolence in Veenhuizen and the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region.

On Thursday 21 September, from 15:00 to 17:00 hrs, the visitors will discuss their mission and the most important challenges they are facing in conserving and managing cultural landscapes in Brazil at DutchCulture in Amsterdam.
