Despite All, We Work
This documentary shares the stories of regional museum workers in Ukraine, filmed during their visitor programme to the Netherlands in 2024, at the invitation of DutchCulture.

In the face of immense challenges since Russia's full-scale invasion, they have redefined their roles, demonstrating the impact of international solidarity. The film highlights how strength and resilience have become the cornerstones of the identity Ukrainians strive to protect. Along the way, we get a glimpse into the passionate, sincere — and at times humorous — conversations between Ukrainian and Dutch museum professionals, as the group visits museums across the Netherlands, from Enschede to Den Bosch.

Ukrainian Museums Near the Front Line: The Changing Role of Regional Museums in Wartime
This is a video recording of DutchCulture’s public live event, featuring five Ukrainian museum directors and curators from prominent regional museums near the front lines. They reflect on their role, discussing questions such as how to share narratives of oppression and the destruction of (regional) identity — and how to shape new ones. The event was part of an international visitors programme held in June 2024.
Ukraine: an art scene under fire (Art Against All Odds)
Last summer, DutchCulture | TransArtists's advisor Lotte Geeven visited Ukrainian artist residencies in cities near the frontline, where she met with the hosts and artists who continue to create art against all odds. We invited five of these curators to the Netherlands. At this public event, they talked about their role during the war and how art brings a sense of community and solidarity. About how their daily practices have changed in the last few years, how their art reflects the war, and how they work on producing new cultural heritage while that heritage is under attack.
Care & Resilience: Ukrainian Museums in Times of War (full version)
DutchCulture welcomed 7 museum professionals from Ukraine for a one-week visit to the Netherlands in February 2023. We have asked the participants to share their stories. These are difficult stories of loss and destruction, but also hopeful and inspiring examples of bravery, of sticking together, of fighting for one’s values.
