Shared Cultural Heritage Programme 2017-2020

The Shared Cultural Heritage programme is part of the International Cultural Policy of the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, Culture & Science.


In recent decades the Dutch government has committed itself to the preservation of Shared Cultural Heritage. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Education, Culture and Science have formulated the current International Cultural Policy for the period 2017-2020. The Shared Cultural Heritage programme is part of this policy. The aims of the programme are:

  1. A strong cultural sector, the quality of which will increase through international exchange and sustained cooperation, and is seen and valued abroad,
  2. More room for a cultural contribution to a safe, just and sustainable world,
  3. The effective use of culture in modern diplomacy

The Netherlands are working on shared heritage in association with Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Suriname and the United States.
